the awakening ritual is a pittsburgh, pa based rock band, focusing on energetic modern rock, featuring strong vocals, distinctive electric guitar riffs, melodic bass lines, all over a rhythmic drum and percussion groove.
the band, formed in the spring of 1997, spent most of that year developing their repertoire of original music, performing at all-acoustic shows, testing their songwriting skills and strong lyric driven vocals, while trying to build a strong following. later that year, the band began playing more than just acoustic shows at such places as, the next decade, the oregon bar and grille, metropol, graffiti, as well as many universities around the tri-state area. the band took first place in both the first and second oregon bar and grille band challenges, competing against the likes of the sydneys, the yves jean band, stone soup, and psychedlic kitchen. the band was also selected as one of the 16 semi-finalists in the 13th annual graffiti rock challenge. the band has also played with such groups as crisis car, cherylann hawk and the clay band, sho nuff, rachel mccartney, ploughman's lunch, the buddy brown show, the yves jean band, push, the buzz poets, and such national acts as third wish, from cleveland, the pat mcgee band, and big brother and the holding company. the awakening ritual completed their first studio recording in the summerof 1998, and are currently in the studio working on their second debut. |
